This one-of-a-kind whale began with an exceptionally rare piece of Cape Cod driftwood. Its naturally weathered surface, deep texture, and sculptural shape give this piece a character all its own.
I let the shape of the wood guide the design, adding a tiny coastal village of houses and details along its back. The result is more than a driftwood whale - it is a small coastal sculpture, shaped by nature and finished by hand.
Each piece of driftwood is unique, and finding a piece with this kind of texture and natural form is rare. No two whales are ever alike, and this one cannot be recreated.

Handcrafted on Cape Cod from locally gathered driftwood, finished with varnish and wax. I don’t pre-draw the shape - the driftwood reveals the whale hidden within it.
